It took me almost two entire books to finally get it. Adam Glass is trying to make a political statement and not a pleasant one. Amanda Waller is essentially a black, female Dick Cheney. She's fighting a terrorist organization, Basilisk, there is the literal ticking time bomb scenario, there is torture to get information about the bomb and Glass even evokes the Conservative boogie man, the New World Order. Even before I figured out the message I already recognized Waller as a ruthless Machiavellian and likely a sociopath so when Waller's life is threatened by a traitor in her midst why would I care. She's an awful human being and inspires traitors because she inserts nano bombs in peoples necks and constantly threatens to kill them. Dick Cheney would drool with envy.The argument is that Waller NEEDS to use nano bombs because the Suicide Squad is composed of ruthless killers who would turn on her at a moment notice. SO WHY IS SHE USING THEM!?!? Her response would be because her squad has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Here's an actual example of her squad in action. The Suicide Squad breaks in on a Basilisk agent who is holding half a dozen hostages and he threatens to kill one unless they back down. Deadshot responds by straight up murdering every hostage removing any bargaining chip. This was undoubtedly done to show that Deadshot is rutheless but it shows him to be a murderous psychopath and no one on the team raises a voice of complaint despite the fact that there was absolutely no reason for him to do mass murder. Our Heroes, folks. Deadshot has murdered, in cold blood, two members of his own team, one by order of Amanda Waller. Meanwhile, Adam Glass tries to make us sympathize with Deadshot and Waller.Here are two examples of how dumb this series is. At the end of book 1 Deadshot shoots Harley Quinn in the belly and you can see a gusher of blood erupt from her back. She is left lying in a pool of blood, eyes open, looking quite dead. In book two she is presumably rushed to the ER off panel and completely fixed up resolving the cliff hanger in the blink of an eye. Since in the New 52 Harley Quinn has more skin showing we get to see that her midsection miraculously has not a mark on it. Why even bother with the stupid bullet to the gut.In book one we are introduced to a really silly, forgettable villain named yo-yo whose name is an allusion to a yo-yo dieter with weight that can go up and down. For some reason King Shark consumes his fellow Suicide Squader in a torrent of chewing and blood and yet later it turns out yo-yo is still alive in King Sharks' gullet. In this book King Shark gets an electrical shock and regurgitates the still very much alive and entirely whole yo-yo whom we find out later had been in King Shark for A MONTH!!! Make no mistake King Shark is BIG but yo-yo is a full grown man. It would be like me swallowing a child and having him lodged in my throat for a month. But that is not the stupidest part. Yo-yo returns to take revenge upon Amanda Waller because he suspects she was behind him being ingested and she smugly admits to it. At this point yo-yo's powers have perhaps altered because his body is morphed similar to Plastic Man and he appears to be literally stepping out of a shadow. Oh, and it looks like the month in King Sharks digestive juices have mangled his face. This apparently was all part of Waller's plan to show that yo-yo is indestructible. WHAT??? HUH??? This was the best way possible? She couldn't simply tell him her suspicion about his invulnerability? So Waller is insanely cold hearted AND stupid and yo-yo appears to buy it. Our Heroes, folks.

This book is a fun read, with a bunch of DC baddies trying to work of their prison debt by doing insane missions for Amanda Waller. This book collects issues #8-13 of the suicide squad plus issue #0, and #9 of Resurrection Man, 8 issues total. This book begins with the recovery of the team members from the events of Suicide Squad Vol. 1. If you haven't read Vol. 1, you will most likely not understand a lot of the comments as these two book are interconnected and many references are made.Here we see a small cross-over with Resurrection man, with whom I was completely unaware of as a DC comics character, but found his power to be super interesting and a good challenge for the Squad. Now I want to know more about him, might check out his series in the future.Also I for some reason love the character of King Shark, and man/shark who is hinted at being more than he appears to be. Deadshot was someone I never really cared for, but after this series am a huge fan. I would like to know more about both of these characters.Amanda Waller takes a large role in this storyline, showing a bit of her personal life, as well as the birth of her idea of the Suicide Squad in issue #0. She proves herself to be pretty bad-ass, and her hinted relationship with Regulus and Team 7 makes me want to know more.Overall I feel the art in these books is absolutely fantastic, and greatly support the fun and action packed writing of Adam Glass. I would definitely recommend this to friends, but Vol. 1 is a must!! Obviously I would like to know more, and I think I will start with Vol. 3 which is already out!!

This is a general review of the entire New 52 Suicide Squad series. Suicide Squad is a great comic book series. Plenty of action, twists, romance? and it can be dark. The best part of the series is you are always learning something new about the characters or being introduced to new characters. It isn't the same old stories you find with the superheroes.I bought the first volume and as soon as I finished the first issue, I immediately order volume 2. If you are looking for a new series to get into, I highly recommend getting into Suicide Squad, you won't be disappointed.

Following the breakout of DC's New 52 Suicide Squad, the story of the team slows down a bit as the team is confronted with a religious zealot, who wants his suicidal cult to usher in the end times. Without writing any spoilers, the roster changes dramatically, traitors on both sides are revealed, and death comes to many, thus the name Suicide Squad. The Suicide Squad publication is a great title to read, but it peaks right around volume 3-4.

Great read if you like.... volume 1, super vilians, a good laugh, violence, plot twists, and a surprise ending.Side note: Sometimes you finish reading something and all you can say is Holy s***...this is one of those time. Besides loving the story line, most of the artwork was incredible and just stunning. Def love love these so far.

DC has dared to create complex story lines and characters and mash them all together in this exciting second installment in the Suicide Squad graphic novel series. I may have enjoyed this one more than Vol. 1, which I loved as well. I highly recommend this volume. Enjoy the ride!

The story is great for continuing the arcs of the series and you get more than enough of each character. Fantastic art and coloring with a good balance of light and dark art work really matching transitory. I was a big fan of the Amanda Waller story, it was nice seeing her be in the field.

I'm brand new to reading Comic books and started with Vol. 1 of Suicide Squad. I thought Vol. 2 was harder to follow and the drawings weren't as good. Certainly didn't stop me from ordering Vol. 3 before I was done.

Dr. Bynum is one a kind! The revision and rerelease of this book is timely in this hour. This is a time where we need to draw closer to the heart of God and His presence like never before. This book helps you go deeper to that place and reassuring of who we are in the Father. A must have if you want to go deeper in your prayer life and if you watch her live on Facebook. I've bought over 10 copies and have blessed others including my pastor with this. Sow it into someone's life including your own.

Very great book! I have definitely experienced heavier presence and glory of God learning the pattern of prayer. Dr. Bynum has out done herself with this book! I thank God for the revelation He has given to her. The only thing is that I wish she would have written beyond the Most Holy Place and told us how to get Behind the Veil, ultimately into the presence of God. But, I am glad that she didn't at the same time because I told myself that if God could give her revelation and it's right in the word of God, I just have to read the same thing she did to figure out how to get to the presence of God. I love this book!

Dr. Bynum really has a great understanding about prayer. God has blessed her as a vessel to share this revelation with us. I think it’s time we, as a Body of Christ, spiritually consider what is important to God as a top priority in our lives such as prayer. Coming before our Father, God, takes passion, consistency and ORDER. This revelation is a blessing and all we need to do is ask Holy Spirit to lead us into this sound truth.

This is a very important book to have for all praying people that is ready to go to the next level in prayer or just want a stronger effective prayer life with God.

This is a good book. I love and follow Dr Bynum's ministry for many of yrs. The only thing that was a distraction is the spacing between the words kept throwing me off. Too many typing errors. But I love the book. It should have been put together in excellence for the price. Nice pic on the front cover. Still love what she was saying.

Disappointing book :(

The most intriguing piece of this collection of critical essays on Stephen King films was Michael A. Arnzen's "Tonka Terrors" on Maximum Overdrive. One for giving some good perspective on the faults of that slogger of a movie, but also begging the question of how King translates so well to film by looking at one of the failures...and a failure by the author himself, which of course presents the notion that King's success lies in part in the hands of others, but not wholly, as it isn't just any writer who has collected such a grand collection of directors, actors and the efforts of others to make such at times magnificent films. While this collection doesn't explore that top in in depth, tending to note differences between story and film rather than why and why it is necessary to do so, Tony Magistrale's choices, including his own contribution, bring us perspective as to how feminization is the saving grace of Shawshank, sneakers prove central to Stand by Me and the social hierarchy of Carrie.

Very helpful. I did a 8-day backpacking trip in the Northern Winds in Aug 2017 and this book was very helpful for planning the trip. It's a bit bulky to carry on a multi-day trip so I photocopied the key pages. It is well written with interesting general background about the range, and it has very comprehensive coverage of the peaks. I am not a technical climber so can't comment on that aspect, although it has lots of route descriptions for technical routes. I'm a scrambler - fine on class III and ok with a bit of class IV - whose goal is to reach the high summits, and for this it is ideal. The descriptions of the trails, passes and summit routes were clear and (in my experience) accurate without being excessively detailed. It does not include topo maps (I used Larson/Earthwalk Press) but it does have trail maps of each area, which are helpful for getting an overview and planning approach routes. Similar in spirit to Secor's guide to the Sierras, but with nice color photos. Highly recommended.

I have used this guide book for the last 30 to 40 years. I lost my copy so this is why I purchased this one. I'm a 71 year old man and will no longer be climbing in the Wind's but will still backpack to the Cirque of the Towers this Summer and take in the scenery and do a little trout fishing. The book lets you fill in the adventure and do the discovering on your own. If you need to know every turn on every trail this guide book is not for you bot for the adventurer in you I highly advise it. TomP

In fall 1994, I flew from Cincinnati to Salt Lake City on one leg of a business trip return flight. The flight went farther north than expected, but toward the end it had to head SW toward Salt Lake. I had a window seat and realized I would be flying over the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming! I knew of them, but had never seen them before. I looked down and in a few minutes they appeared ... towering peaks, shining lakes, and glaciers. I knew then that I had to plan a backpack trip to them. Later, upon looking at maps, I realized I had flown right over the high peaks portion of the Wind Rivers ... Gannett Peak, Fremont Peak, Titcomb Basin ... followed by Fremont Lake at the base of the range.When I got home, I looked for Wind River guidebooks and Joe Kelsey's "Climbing and Hiking in the Wind River Mountains, 2nd Edition" was the best. I immediately purchased it and started planning. I made three separate backpack trips to the Wind River Mountains with the help of the book. I have been in areas from Titcomb Basin in the north to Cirque of the Towers in the south. I am a scrambler (nothing over Class 3), but for the hiking part and the scrambling part, the book was excellent.When I saw that this 3rd edition was available, I purchased copies for myself and friends and can see that it is still the same excellent (and expanded/improved) guidebook. It reminds me that I need to get back to the Wind River Mountains again. Besides all the information, the photos (many with climbing routes shown) are beautiful.One thing that Mr. Kelsey does well (that other guidebooks usually don't do) is have a subsection in each section that describes the mountain passes/cols and off-trail routes in sufficient detail, whether they are well known/designated passes or lesser known passes/cols and off-trail routes. I specifically benefited from his descriptions of Pass 11,120+ (Island Lake to Wall Lake; page 182 in the new 3rd edition), Monument Creek Route (Monument Creek to Pole Creek; page 208), and Pass 11,640+ (East Fork Valley to Bonneville Lake; page 257) ... I used all these passes/routes in my trips to the Wind Rivers and the descriptions (in the 2nd edition I used then ... and expanded in the new 3rd edition) saved valuable time/effort.I corresponded by letter with Mr. Kelsey in 1999 and I can see that he incorporates such discussion in future work. For example, on page 157 in the new 3rd edition, he expanded the Knapsack Col discussion, saying that one should bring along an ice ax for the Twins Glacier side of Knapsack Col (this was a subject in our 1999 correspondence).Anyone who loves backpacking and/or climbing has to experience the Wind River Mountains ... and they need the new 3rd edition of this guidebook.

Lots of good info if your planing a trip to the Winds

Excellent book, and definitive for this region. I'm especially pleased that the author was able to correct an error about a "Wolf's Head" climb that had slipped into the second edition.

This has great route information - very detailed. However, it really is more of a climbing/scrambling guide. If you really want hiking trail info, go with the falcon Wind Rivers hiking book.

Great, interesting read. A good addition to any book shelf. As Kelsey says in the intro, this book is NOT a detailed guidebook in terms of technical route descriptions. It is very vague when describing descent options, belay locations, routes or pretty much anything. For anyone considering going to the winds for the first time, this book is great to get a general layout of the area and an idea for a new adventure, but should not be relied upon if you don't know the area or have experience climbing/hiking there.I can see the appeal of keeping the ethics in the winds and the sense of adventure, but lots of confusing/conflicting/misleading and missing information in this book. Just a heads up.For the cirque, "cirque of the towers and deep lake" by Bechtel is a much better choice because it is more detailed and reliable.

This is a good beginning book for those interested in Theravadan Buddhism. Even though I've practiced this form for many years, this book has continued to educate me. I purchased another copy for my son, who is just starting on this path.

Ayya Khema writes clearly and succinctly. This is not my favorite book by her, but it is a good book, particularly for anyone new to buddhism.

This is one of my favorite Ayya Khema books, but be aware it's a word for word copy of another Ayya book published under the title "When The Iron Eagle Flies". Both books are published by Wisdom Publications and it really raises question about their integrity when they publish the same book under two different titles.

The author is noted music teacher, author and guide to all things classical the inimitable Jan Swafford. I previously enjoyed his long and insightful works on Brahms and Beethoven as well as his Vintage Guide to Classical Music. The book gives thumbnail biographies of composers from Bach to today. Each major period of music is surveyed from Baroque to Classical, Romantic to atonality in the twentieth century. Short but vivid sketches are given of composers in each era, a reason for their importance and a brief commentary on some of their major works. Such composers include Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Wagner, Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Ives, Ravel, Debussy, Richard Strauss, Mahler, Stravinsky and many others.. Operatic composers with the exception of Richard Wagner are given short shrift; the emphasis is on instrumental and orchestral music through the ages. A good work for people getting interested in the many faced world of classical music. A fun journey with an expert teacher as our guide. Recommended for music lovers of any age and level of musical knowledge.

This is a wonderful book about classical music! It is better than wonderful. Disclosure: Jan Swafford is a friend of mine from the early 1970s. Back when he was teaching high school music, he developed a reputation for being a great writer. Not just good, but great. His career became teaching music at the college level (Harvard undergrad, Yale PhD), composing music, and writing. He has written biographies of Charles Ives, Brahms, and Beethoven, all well received, as well as a guide to classical music. But first and foremost he has taught music for nearly 40 years. This book is a highly readable, brief history of classical music. It gives short and fascinating biographies of the major composers from each each era, and a listening guide to selected pieces from each composer. Even while not listening to the music, those guides are good reading. I suspect even serious, well-read music aficionados will enjoy this fast read. For those of us who like to casually listen to the classics, but know little about the music or composers, it is a real treat. This book would be a great way to begin a study of the classics at home, which is what I plan to do. Jan's enthusiasm is contagious. Highly recommended.

This book will go down as one of the three most important books in my library! Mr. Swafford masterfully gives a brief yet concise history of the origins and development of classical music in addition to colorfully written glimpses of the most influential composers of the different periods. I did not think that I could love or appreciate classical music any more than I already did, but I frequently found myself in awe and wonderment. Mr. Swafford manages to provoke these feelings with a level of knowledge, wit, and humors that keeps the reader raptly engaged and eargerly turning the pages. Whether one wants a solid introduction to the classics or simply a refresher, this is THE book to read. I cannot recommend it enough and will use it in the future as a reference tool in my writing. Mr. Swafford will take you on a grand journey, and you will NOT be disappointed!

This book is a summary of all of the beautiful music that makes up Classical today. The author starts with prior to Baroque and continues into the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods of Classical music. During each period, he briefly (approximately 5 pages each) reviews each major composer including what he suggests to be their best music. During this review, he covers Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Berlioz, Chopin, Wagner, Brahms, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Strauss, Debussey, and many others. He recommends that the reader listen to some of the pieces of music provided in the book. Many of them I have heard as a governing member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, but some I have not (especially the chamber music stuff). Some of the music I have on CD, so I took this opportunity to listen to them again. In most instances, his states are close to mine (I can't say he was right, because taste is personal). However, some music by modern composers were not enjoyable when I first heard them (and I don't intend on listening to them again unless the CSO plays them) - like Bartok's 2nd piano concerto, and Three Piano Pieces of Op 11, Both of these pieces of music give me a headache, but maybe you will like them.I think that if you have any interest in classical music or are just wondering if you might have an interest, you should try out this book. If you haven't followed classical music, this is a good primer for you. Read the book and listen to the pieces of music that he recommends. Since I am a Beethoven, Brahms and Dvorak lover, I would recommend starting with them. You can't go wrong there. If you already follow classical music, like me, I think that you will still find this to be interesting.

This was a gift to my husband...a retired musician and conductor whose main avocation now is reading books on composers and all music. He enjoyed it very much and did learn something he was not aware of in his knowledge of music.

Well written. Engaging. Informative. Especially good for the novice who wants to learn more about classical music and the composers.

I loved reading this book while listening to its recommended pieces on Prime Music, from madrigals to modern classical composers.

I used this book for my recent visit to Burlington and the Champlain Islands. It had some good leads but missed many off-the-beaten-track gems that luckily I was able to find using local newspapers and flyers when I arrived. It also had faulty info about a not-so-off-the-beaten-track tourist spot: the Ben and Jerry's factory. I really liked the small local maps in the book but was constantly cross referencing other sources and stumbling on businesses and sites that were well deserving of mention. I have used the Maine coast moon handbook many times and rely on it for hard to find information; this Vermont edition did not live up to my expectations.

We used this book (among others) on our fall foliage trip through Vermont. It has lots of good information and some decent pictures. I wouldn't use it to book your hotel (it has some suggestions, but not much), but as you're driving around the state it has helpful information on a lot of areas. The text is easy to read (especially for older eyes) and there are itineraries with maps to help you prioritize your excursions or plan your trip.

This book has szome nice photos and lots of great information about Vermont, my favorite state. I bought this to help me decide where I'd like to retire to in the future. A great resource. If you love a country atmosphere and beautiful landscape with lots of pines and awesome colors in autumn, you need to visit Vermont.

Moon Handbooks can always be relied on for comprehensive info on a state's sightseeing destinations, restaurants, and lodging facilities. I will be packing this book in my suitcase as my family heads for Vermont.

This book got me exactly what I needed. I wanted to have a map, know where to eat and where to stay and what cab company to call. This did all that. I'm sure it would do more if I had needed it for more.

May not be the Fancy color Travel Book but is the most useful with good basic maps, lodgings & restaurants. It is not all 5 star lodging & restaurants that I have found in other books.

We are eagerly planning a trip, with so many ideas - I suspect we'll leave this small state wanting more time there
