Great reference book for perinatal, mother/baby, postpartum and or nursery RNs. A must have in your bookshelf.I used this book as well as William's Obstetrics to study for my Certification exam. Both text books are filled with amazing information, I crack open the books every now and then if I want to look more in depth at the patho or dynamics behind a certain process
THIS IS THE WORST NURSING TEXT BOOK I HAVE EVER SEEN.Pros:The cover is prettyBook is light- fits in my back pack nicelyCons:The whole book is written in note form- each chapter covers roughly three chapters worth of informationThere is NO way to summarize the information because its already summarized for you, makes taking notes impossibleUses a lot of scientific words without explaining 3/4 of them. How am I supposed to read 3 chapters in a timely manner when I have to look up every other word? There isn't any evolve resources for this book, frustrating when students have a hard time summarizing the information and deciding what is importantBlack and white everything- makes it very hard to pick up the book and find something quickly.Topics within the chapters are organized in a way that doesn't flow and makes learning harder. No index. To top it off my professor for this class wasn't the greatest. Added to the hatred of this textbook to be honest. BUT I really think this book wasn't made for an undergrad maternity class, the information was much too in-depth and the textbook assumed that the student was already knowledgeable on the subject.Would not recommend.
Must have for mother/ baby RN's and good certification resource.
Love the layout of the book. Easy to read. The book is also a good reference tool.
Great resource.

I'm writing this review as a parent, not a professional, for the benefit of other parents or non-behavior analysts who are interested in learning more about ABA/verbal behavior. This book is aimed at professionals or at the very least, well read laypeople. Don't read this book until you are familiar with the basic concepts of applied behavior analysis. The book does define terms such as establishing operation, tact, and mand, but you don't want this to be your introduction to ABA. As well as other introductory texts on ABA, I would recommend reading Mary Lynch Barbera's The Verbal Behavior Approach first. This book will not make you (the non professional) a behavior analyst or capable of implementing your child's program yourself. What it does is give you a deeper understanding of the theory and practice of verbal behavior so that you will be able to understand and assist in your child's program. Verbal behavior uses different concepts from traditional language development materials that you may encounter in speech language therapy. Instead of phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, Skinner's VB theory looks at the functions of language--requesting, labeling, echoing, etc. By understanding this classification, you can understand your child's specific strengths and weaknesses more thoroughly. (Do note that the initial assessment presented is at a 2-3 years of age level; it does not accommodate all possibilities.)The major flaw of the book is that it was published in 1998 and I do hope that a revised edition is issued. It is lacking in a few notable respects: for example, the research on AAC is much more developed than is presented here and the study of PECS in particular has been much advanced. Sundberg and Partington are not anti-AAC, but I believe that today they would have more information to provide in implementing it and supporting its use.The language is also an issue. This is obviously a book for professionals and not one to comfort parents, but some of the terminology is no longer used and is opposed by autism advocates, such as using "training" instead of "teaching." The term "compliance training" made me wince, even though the definition is fine (that the first focus of ABA is to get the child to trust the therapist). However, despite the age of the book, it clearly addresses issues which are still a problem today. The authors emphasize the need to tailor the program to the child's needs, to use activities which are highly motivating, and to make strong use of the natural environment as it provides strong reinforcers and enables the child to generalize rather than only be able to use rote speech.
As a Speech-Language Pathologist who is currently working on becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), I believe this is a must read for any and all speech therapists who work in Early Intervention and/or with children with autism. This book provides step-by-step instructions on how to improve verbal speech skills ranging from a child that is nonverbal and aggressive to more complex skills such as requesting missing items. This book provides a different prospective to teaching a child to communicate than many "developmentally focused" speech and language textbooks. By combining my previous knowledge and expertise of speech and language with specific teaching tips from this text, I believe that I have become a better therapist and my patients have also benefited exponentially.
Just a regular school book nothing exciting.
A very useful tool for organizing and planning.
Had purchased to help my newly diagnosed 3 year old grandson with Autism and language delay. Written on a professional level, so is don't have an educational back ground, may be difficult to understand.
Easy to understand
This books contains info needed to effectively apply verbal behavioral techniques and concepts in supporting children with ASD and other developmental disabilities.
As advertised.

While at the Botanical Gardens Library in Cleveland researching options for "organic" pest control for vegetable gardening, and home pest control (for ants, carpenter bees, etc) I paged through a table full of books. MY goal was to formulate a pesticide that would control garden and home pests, yet be so non-toxic as to be potentially edible by humans. My focus included using essential plant oils as active ingredients, but was open to other non-toxic solutions as well. While pour over a number of volumes and as a side I pulled this book off the shelf, knowing full well that it was not going to specifically address my issues in depth. After I reviewed this volume I quickly discovered I was wrong. "Common Sense Pest Control" is very broad in scope, covering everything from wood-rot, to bats, to ants, to slugs and offers "common sense" approaches to controlling, eliminating, and in some cases: living with, common pests. After finding great information for my specific research in this book, I realized this was a reference that I should not be without in the future. The book is older, but newer information on the subject that I have found, leans more to chemical-sense solutions rather than common-sense. Amazingly I discovered that this hidden gem was dirt cheap in perfect condition hardcover here on Amazon. Highly recommended - a secret bargain -- I debated writing a customer review about this book, as I was going to purchase 4-5 of them and give them to friends and family as gifts. (Please leave me a few.)
So much information but all of it useful. Whether you are an organic farmer, a backyard gardener or somewhere in between you will benefit from perusing this tome for advice every time you have a pest issue regardless of its form (animal, mineral or vegetable). I have an organic farm and have recommended this latest edition to everyone that will stand still long enough to listen.
Okay
Colorful, complete, reliable whether at beginning, middle or conclusion of a pest control search. Highly recommended.
The most complete review of pests, and how to deal with them when needed in the most environmentally safe manner.
Good!
It's missing a lot on entomology. The section it does have is pretty brief. Overall it's a good guide, but it is not a good reference to troubleshoot sick plants.
Great integrated pest management without using nasty pesticides. I showed it to a Master Gardener and she is getting a copy to add to her library.

It's amazing how much I enjoyed reading about a subject that I didn't really want to hear about! As a food fanatic, the last thing I thought I wanted to know about was food waste. Huge portions, sure, bring them on. Unhealthy, fatty, sugar-laden junk food, I can't get enough. Information on the fast food business, latest marketing temptations, and unhealthy food trends? Sure, I live for this information. But food waste? Doesn't sound appealing to me. Even if it's out there, and growing as a problem, I probably don't want to hear about it.That's what I thought. Jonathan Bloom's book is absolutely riveting, and his areas of exploration are so varied, complex, and well described that I ate this book up like a Taco Bell triple crunchwrap! This man has done his homework, and his writing method is so entertaining that you tend to forget that you are learning all kinds of horrible facts and truths about food waste in our modern world. Examples abound of all kinds of preventable waste going on all around us, from the farms that feed us, the supermarkets that provide the offerings, and our own lazy and entitled habits at home and in restaurants. The most startling revelations, to me, was the prevalence of this activity all around us, and how our cultural attitudes have fostered notions that there's absolutely nothing wrong with the way we squander and waste food. Best of all, Bloom offers solutions that are available to us right now, and simply require our own cooperation to set in motion. For a book that I began reading with obvious reservations came a truly inspiring and exhilirating experience, and taught me a lot about a subject in which I thought I was well-versed. Highly recommended.
A fairly good book exploring, in a mostly critical and adaptionist view, why we find pleasure in the things we do. The earliest chapters, exploring baseline concepts such as food and sex, tended to be the most grounded with the most research backing. Later chapters tended to veer too much toward speculation and philosophy. The author also tends to be a bit hit and miss in narrative abilities. At times he's engaging and the style is not unlike "Freakonomics". However, where that book typically took time to really dig apart some of the cited examplesor experiments, this book tends to just reference studies or examples in a passing fashion.Another minor issue I have with the book is that the author tends to try and explain things as having a REASON or a PURPOSE too much. For example, in a chapter about art, he seemed to get hung up on their needing to be an evolutionary reason for this element of humanity. However the author has either forgotten or doesn't know that there are many examples of evolution not doing away with adaptions that are no longer relevant but are not overtly harmful. For example, male nipples (a remnant of the fact we are all conceived female), 3rd molars (largely redundant based on how heavily our food is processed now and how little chewing we do, relatively speaking), the appendix (again, largely irrelevant due to not having to eat raw vegetatian all the time), or a set of muscles in the shoulders that are largely useless now that we don't spend our days hanging in trees. So, point being: our appreciation of art may not have an evolutionary advantage but merely be a nice side effect of having a brain geared towards open-ended problem solving and non-linear critical thinking (as an aside, they've found that proto-humans had both more white matter in their brains and were leaving many more examples of art than Neanderthals were, but how would a tendency to waste time painting pictures have helped proto-humans survive AND thrive better than our now dead ancient cousins?). And the author does this multiple times, not bringing up or considering the possibility of the "redundant" factor in evolutionary history (although he does on occasion mention the possibility of certain ideas or elements being just fortunate side effects, but only in a "last possibility" sort of way.Overall it's a good book. It introduced some new ideas about human psychology and evolution to me, and brought up some interesting points about what we prioritize in terms of pleasure. However, the book tends to be a little light on its explorations and in-depth discussions, especially in later chapters.
Pure trash. Wish I could give it a zero. I'm worried about my kids going to college a few years from now. If a Yale professor can advocate cannibalism, preach how religion is just a scare tactic for parents to keep their kids in line, preach that "abstinence in our youth is the bane of America's moral system and the worst attack on our sexual psyche, then describe the many ways of sexual pleasure - and not get in trouble or have any consequences, I'm not going to pay for their college at an Ivy League school and I'll certainly research the sort of teachers at those colleges. A very sick, disturbing book. Terrible.

Traister’s appraisal of unmarried women in “intellectual and public realms” — that is, their friendships, their solitude, their economic gains and shortfalls and their sexuality — rooted in both contemporary and historical research, will inspire you to seek out more stories. This is just the beginning."—New York Times “A singularly triumphant work of women presented in beautiful formation... Keenly mindful of race, ethnicity and socioeconomic status…[Traister] is both deliberate and conversant in her language of inclusion…As impressively well researched as All the Single Ladies is...it's the personal narratives drawn from more than 100 interviews she conducted with all manner of women that make the book not just an informative read but also an entirely engaging one.”—Los Angeles Times “A well-researched, deeply informative examination of women’s bids for independence, spanning centuries…Traister provides a thoughtful culling of history to help bridge the gap between, on the one hand, glib depictions of single womanhood largely focused on sexual escapades and, on the other, grave warnings that female independence will unravel the very fabric of the country…[she] brings a welcome balance of critique and personal reflection to a conversation that is often characterized more by advocacy and moral policing than honest discovery…All The Single Ladies is arriving just in time. This is an informative and thought-provoking book for anyone – not just the single ladies – who wants to gain a great understanding of this pivotal moment in the history of the United States.”—New York Times Book Review (Editor’s Choice) “Powerful and convincing…we’re better off reading Rebecca Traister on women, politics, and America than pretty much anyone else. [Traister is] one of the nation’s smartest and most provocative feminist voices.”—The Boston Globe “The enormous accomplishment of Traister’s book is to show that the ranks of women electing for nontraditional lives…have also improved the lots of women who make traditional choices, blowing open the institutions of marriage and parenthood…This rich portrait of our most quietly explosive social force makes it clear that the ladies still have plenty of work to do.” —Slate “A monumental study of the political, economic, social, and sexual consequences of the rise of unmarried women.”—New Republic “Lucid and well-researched…[Traister] vividly illustrates the collective power of single women in guiding legal, economic, and social progress and in ‘asserting themselves as citizens—full citizens—in ways that American men have for generations.’ A chapter on female friendships satisfyingly conveys the complexity of a significant, and often dismissed, relationship.”—The New Yorker “Personal and relatable…[Traister’s] assessment of single women’s sex lives is so balanced and ordinary-sounding that it becomes extraordinary in a world where Tinder is supposedly bringing a dating apocalypse…I’ll swipe right on that message any day.”—Washington Post “Though Traister is no longer one of us, she retains her memories and her empathy, as well as her feminist commitments…Drawing on, historical and contemporary sources, as well as her own reporting, she has produced a wide-ranging, insistently optimistic analysis of the role of single women in American society.”—Chicago Tribune “I can’t begin to count the number of conversations I’ve had in my adult life about my lack of enthusiasm to marry… Thankfully, with the publication of Rebecca Traister’s All the Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation, I can stop explaining and buy her book for all the busybodies in my happily unmarried life. Traister blends history, reportage and personal memoir to propose that the notion of marriage in American life has been and will be written by unmarried women.”—The Guardian (US) “Traister’s illuminating history of women who haven’t put a ring on it, whether by choice or by chance, is smartly placed in a larger historical context and enriched by compelling personal narratives.”—Entertainment Weekly, Best Books of 2016 So Far select “Traister is one of the sharpest journalists writing about feminism today, and her look into the link between eras with large numbers of unmarried women and periods of drastic social change is absolutely riveting… It turns out the history of unmarried women in this country is a fascinating one, which Traister recounts in compulsively readable detail, combining facts with personal stories from single ladies across racial and financial spectrums. What’s left after she joyfully dismantles conservative arguments about the death of wifely servitude is hope: ‘Ring on it’ or not, the paths open to women today are varied and bright.”—Entertainment Weekly "It takes a gifted writer to conjure an addictive, fascinating read out of centures of dense facts and census data, but that's exactly what journalist Traister does in this illuminating history of unmarried women. Using wide-ranging research as well as interviews, she delves into the different ways singlehood affects women of varying races, socioeconomic brackets, and sexual orientations--and explains how surges in the numbers of single women throughout history have coincided with social change. —Isabella Biedenharn, Entertainment Weekly "In this intelligent book, Traister looks at the many reasons for choosing a patch that would have been cultural and economic suicide 50 years ago. She wants single women to recognize themselves as a political force and to celebrate unmarried life for what it can be: an excellent option.”—People Magazine “Wonderfully inclusive, examining single women from all walks of life—working-, middle-, and upper-class women; women of color and white women; queer and straight ones…With All the Single Ladies, [Traister] brings her trademark intelligence and wit to bear, interspersing her own experiences and observations with dozens of interviews with women all over the country, plus historical context, from so-called Boston marriages (the nineteenth-century name for women who lived together) and the Brontë sisters to Murphy Brown and Sex and the City.”—Elle Magazine “No husband, NP…In All The Single Ladies, an exhaustive examination of independent women and how they shaped the world we live (and date) in today, Rebecca Traister explodes the centuries-old notion that mirage is compulsory to living a happy, fulfilled life and reveals the inestimable power of being blissfully unattached.”—Cosmopolitan “All The Single Ladies is essential, careful, bold, and rigorous; it’s a warning and a celebration, and I loved it.”—Jezebel “[All The Single Ladies] has the potential to become a seminal text on female identity in the West…Traister expertly paints a modern portrait of American life and how we got here, with an intersectional approach that accounts for class, race, and sexual orientation. Even more impressive is how Traister pushes a feminist agenda without the book ever feeling like it has an agenda, or that it's pointing the finger at the reader to make him or her feel guilty.”—VICE “A well-written and unabashedly feminist analysis of the history and current situation of single women in America.”—Newsday “Exploring all aspects of single life—social, economic, racial, and sexual—Traister’s comprehensive volume, sure to be vigorously discussed, is truly impressive in scope and depth while always managing to be eminently readable and thoughtful.”—Booklist (starred review) “[Traister is] a thoughtful journalist…This fast-paced, fascinating book will draw in fans of feminism, social sciences, and U.S. history, similar to Gail Collins’s When Everything Changed.”—Library Journal “Incorporating a lively slew of perspectives of single ladies past and present, Traister conducts a nuanced investigation into the sexual, economic, and emotional lives of women in America and the opportunities available when marriage is no longer “the measure of female existence.”…Traister is funny and fair in how she deals with the prevalent stereotypes and remaining stigmas attached to being an unmarried woman in society…an invigorating study of single women in America with refreshing insight into the real life of the so-called spinster.”—Publishers Weekly “Cogent and provocative…a persuasive case for why unmarried women have grown into a potent political and social force…Readers will also appreciate Traister's willingness to recount, with candor and humor, experiences in her own life that fit into the larger national story. This is a fascinating book—and an important one.”—Bookmark/Politics & Prose Blog “Part social and cultural history, part anthropological and journalistic investigation, part memoir, and total investigation into the phenomenon and political power of single womanhood.”—Flavorwire “Timely and important…a significant addition to the literature of sociology and women’s studies…Clearly this book belongs right up there with those by Gloria Steinem, Gail Collins, and other feminist writers who shine a light on contemporary life as few others can.”—New York Journal of Books PRAISE FOR REBECCA TRAISTER "Visionary."—The New York Times Book Review "One of the most powerful voices in a new generation of American feminist writers."—Walter Russell Mead, Foreign Affairs "The most brilliant voice on feminism in this country."—Anne Lamott, author of Bird by Bird "A clear-eyed, whip-smart observer of the political scene."—Daphne Merkin, author of The Fame Lunches "Brilliant."—Maureen Corrigan, NPR's Fresh Air "Clever, caustic, [and] wickedly funny."—Slate.com "The heir to the tradition of Mary McCarthy and Joan Didion."—Eric Alterman, author of The Cause "Provocative and insightful."—Curtis Sittenfeld, author of Eligible

There is so much to love in this book. In many ways it serves as a validation of single life. There are stories of women with careers, friendships, hobbies, and children that fulfill them, all without a spouse. Unmarried women have helped to usher in major social change, including abolition and the labor movement. Traister illustrates that single women are multi-faceted and have full lives beyond trying to find a man. All women who spent some portion of their adult life single will see themselves in this book.Just to be clear, Traister doesn't disparage marriage. In fact, she is married with two children herself, although she was in her mid-30s before that happened. This book is about women who spend at least some portion of their adults lives unmarried. Most of the time that's due to marrying later, but there are divorced women and women who live with serious partners as well. The point is that this demographic has been growing steadily larger, and is becoming a political, social, and economic force. The best part of this book is the history, which focuses on the late 1800s to the present. It's always refreshing when someone acknowledges that the "traditional" 1950s model of a house in the suburbs with the husband working and the wife keeping the house was a historical anomaly and only applied to a relatively small section of society. Traister recognizes that poor, minority women usually had to have jobs outside the home. Feminism has frequently celebrated white, middle-class women for doing much the same thing that these women have always had to do. Traister not only acknowledges they exist, but fits them into the broader framework of society and how demographics and history have affected them. There is a practicality running through the book that I really appreciated. It's easy to condemn women for having children while single/poor/young, but Traister looks at the economic and social choices that lead women to it. She also looks at some of the more pragmatic downsides of being single. Who will take care of us when we're old? Who will help us haul furniture home from Ikea? What if we just get tired of both earning our own wages and keeping our own homes? The only quibbles I have are that Traister didn't acknowledge the dark side of female friendship. The chapter about the bonds of friendship between women was positively glowing, and there are many wonderful things to be said. However, mean girls and frenemies are a widely acknowledged phenomenon among young women, and it seemed odd to only cover the positive sides of female friendships.I would also have liked a little more depth on child-free women. It's mentioned briefly, but the emphasis is certainly on single mothers, women who have children later in life, and fertility treatments. The number of women who choose to forgo having children entirely is also growing, and should have gotten a little more coverage.
I picked up this book based on the recommendations of a friend as well as the positive reviews below. After reading the introduction, I expected the book to be an intertwining of interviews with single women from various backgrounds along with a somewhat linear history of the author's own life. This wasn't quite accurate. The first fifth of the book is a whirlwind tour of the history of single women in America. While it is brisk and doesn't go into as much detail as I might have liked, this portion of the book was really interesting. The author makes the case that the groundwork for the phenomenon of a large demographic of single women in our society today (and their acceptance into the mainstream) was laid as early as the late 19th century, and gives examples of the contributions of various women. However, the book seemed to lose its focus after this point. Each chapter is based on a different aspect of the life of a single woman, but there isn't much structure beyond this. It is typical for the author to spend a paragraph or two discussing the experience of some particular woman she interviewed, then use a quote from a historian or historical figure (completely without context) in the next paragraph to imply that this situation is an old one, and then describe a somewhat relevant experience in her own life, before making some broad generalization about how this is a common phenomenon. Much of the content is interesting, but I can't help but wish she would have fleshed more of the material out instead of skimming the surface, generalizing, and moving on. It is dizzying.Overall, I think the book is worth a read, especially for young women, on the merits of its subject matter and the breadth of the topics and events it touches upon. All the single ladies is a good launching place for learning more about feminism and the evolving roll of women in our society.
I have become my own person at age 64 after I was left a widow. It took many years. In a world bent on dependent and thus vulnerable female status, I didn't fit in the couple's culture any more. I was wondering about how I would live alone? I found out I like it. This book answers and reflects my perspective of independent women that many of my married friends don't understand. Thank you.I
While I agree with many of the reviews that state this is a good book, I give it 3-star review for lack of structure and cohesiveness. I also feel, it doesn't quite fully come together in the message in wants or claims to represent (at least, based on the review I read and the reason I bought it to read). I honestly felt like I was reading a different book; yet, it was a good book. I do, however, feel that the author did a poor job intertwining the historical information with the other points of the book...resulting in an undermining of her effort. That's just my opinion based on reading the book.

First, I'm so happy that there's a Ketogenic cookbook that is dairy-free. I am lactose-intolerant and I really think it will make the difference between sticking to this way of eating and not. There's a lot of variety in this book to keep me cooking creatively which is important to me. I also like that the author didn't include recipes that simply substitute imitation cheeses. Even before I couldn't eat dairy I didn't like cheese and am so happy to see recipes not dependent on it.I've had the cookbook for 3 days and have tried several of the recipes. Last night I made 2 of them: Pork Chops with Dijon gravy on page 242, and Keto Custard on 339. The instructions for the Dijon gravy are to "Stir until slightly thickened". I knew that wasn't going to happen since it was just 2 ingredients; chicken broth and mustard. Let's just say it looked nothing like the picture which I think had to have been thickened for the purpose of the photo. Also, the gravy is white in the picture - don't know how that happened with 2 yellow ingredients! As for the custard recipe, there is a glaring mistake. The directions are to bake at 325° for "8 to 10 minutes". As an experienced cook I knew there is no way this could be accomplished. At the 10 minute mark the custard was still a liquid. I then took the 4 ramekins from the oven, added them to a pan filled with hot water (to the middle of the ramekins) and put them back in the oven. They were finally done "50" minutes later (1 hour in all). The custard is delicious but be aware it needs a lot more time in the oven than 10 minutes!Good cookbook and I'll enjoy using it. I just think common sense will have to prevail with some of the recipes.
I seem to have an addiction to Maria Emmerich cookbooks. This is my 7th book.I'm just trying some recipes from the book and will add pictures as I do.Here are some of the highlights:* Short info section at the beginning which outlines a keto diet and many tips about nutrients. It includes some snack ideas to keep on hand and gives a listing of some of the recipes that can be made in less than 10 minutes.*Gorgeous pictures of every recipe.*Nutritional information for every recipe*A 28 day basic meal plan (with nutritional information)*A 28 Day Egg free meal plan (with nutritional information)*A 7 Day Nightshade free meal plan (with nutritional information)*A 7 Day Vegetarian meal plan (with nutritional information)One of the first things I do when I receive a new cookbook is to add sticky tabs to all the recipes that I want to try. Here are some of the recipes that I tabbed. I listed them by section that Maria has in the book.Basics*Lemon Syrup*Cinnamon Syrup*Simple Bbq SauceBreak-Your-Fast*Lemon Minute Muffins*Loaded Scrambled Eggs*Lemon Poppyseed Waffles*Snickerdoodle Mini Muffins*French Toast Pudding*Breakfast Asparagus (pic included - easy to make and very delicious) - this is my go to breakfast now.Small Bites and Drinks*Virgin Strawberry MargaritaSoups and Stews*French Onion Meatball Soup*Slow Cooker Thai Soup (pic - tasty soup but needs a bit more spice added to it - just in my opinion)Salads and Sides*Keto Brioche*Asian Coleslaw (Very nice flavor)Poultry*Chicken Shwarma*Grilled Jerk Chicken Thighs (pic - very nice flavor. I have never had Jerk before so I don't know how it compares)*Greek Chicken Thighs (pic -very good)*Bundt Pan Chicken*Sesame chicken (pic - delicious. I doubled the sauce )*Dry rub wings (pic- I added a bit of sukrin gold to add a sweeter flavor and the wings were awesome)Beef and Lamb*Kung Pao Meatballs*Fajita kabobs (pic - delicious a bit spicier than I like so I will use less Cayenne next time)Pork*Sweet and Sour Meatballs (pictured below - Family approved - was very good - it made a lot of sauce so I froze the extra for next time and I have one less step) - used the extra sauce on chicken and it was delicious too.*30 Minute Porchetta*Hawaiian Luau PorkFish and Seafood*Salt Crusted Fish*Bacon Wrapped Scallops*Cajun ShrimpVegetarian Dishes*Sweet n Sour CauliflowerSweet Endings*Sour Patch Candy*Flourless Chocolate Torte*Mocha Fudge Mug Cakes*Banana Bread*Classic Sherbet*Dirt Cake*Strawberries and Cream Panna Cotta*Chocolate Pudding PopsI will add pictures and comments on the recipes above as I make them.Pictures:Sweet and Sour Pork MeatballsSesame chickenBreakfast asparagusFajita kabobsGreek Chicken thighsDry Rub WingsJerk Chicken ThighsBreakfast asparagusAsian ColeslawSlow Cooker Thai Soup
I have been very disappointed by what I am seeing in this book, but I do hope I will change my mind! If so, I will come back and give it more than 3 starl. I am giving it 3 stars because it is so well laid out with a great index, etc. I can't give it more than that because I just do not find very many things at all that even appeal to me by looking through this book. For example, a protein shake with 4 hard-boiled eggs in it? YUCK. I had to turn the page quickly!Compared to other keto cookbooks I have bought, THIS one is way more complicated. I am VERY surprised by all the positive reviews. It just makes me wonder how much these people are REALLY using this book on a daily basis.I have HAD to cook from scratch for almost 6 years now so my special cookbooks are my guide for every meal. I think I am a pretty good judge on what is "simpler" and what is more complicated. I define "complicated" by: how much prep is required? Does this recipe include ingredients I have on hand or will I have to go to the store? (I live 30 minutes from a grocery store) Will the needed ingredients be easy to find or will I have to drive an HOUR to a Whole Foods to get them, OR order them from Amazon? Is this something my family will eat? SO FAR....I would put THIS cookbook in the more complicated category, as well as in the category of, "Well, I MIGHT find something I can use, but the jury is still out on this one."I have used another keto cookbook that I love, but I cannot do all the dairy. So far it's looking like I can alter those recipes to be dairy-free a lot more than I will be able to use this cookbook.I appreciate all the time and effort the author has put into writing this book and if it works for her and others who have purchased it, I am happy for all of you. The book is beautifully done, so well organized, very informative, and I feel she added a personal touch. For all of that, I would give her 5 stars, easily! But for what I paid, and knowing I probably won't use it that much....I can't justify an overall 5 stars.I'm not giving up. I'm going to TRY. And if I change my mind, I will gladly come back and update my review! :-)

Great book as all of Anodea Judith's are. Still will never top Eastern body Western Mind though.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I've been an energy worker for many years so I wasn't expecting anything new, but there was! I love soaking up the new info and seeing how someone else interprets the energy.
I love Anodea Judith’s work and she is top notch (I highly recommend Wheels of Life!), her work is detailed and incredibly helpful. But my copy of the book has poor editing and some of the pictures are placed badly so they block out the text. I noticed this is the First Edition fourth printing in 2017. Maybe a bad batch? Ugh it’s frustrating because I want to take in every single word of hers!!! Giving 4 stars, docking 1 Star because poor publishing, but the author’s work is excellent. Otherwise 5 stars.
Beautiful book! It's colorful and well designed. Each chakra has it's own chapter and there are colored numbers on the sides of the pages so you can quickly and easily identify the chakra associated with that section. Great photos and easy to follow directions for the yoga postures. My one complaint is that the pronunciation guide she gives for the seed mantra sound for each chakra is completely different than what I've read everywhere else.
This is a great book for developing a Chakra based yoga practice. I have used it to plan parts of classes and whole classes around each Chakra or general tune in. It's clearly written and a good book for the beginner and more experienced teacher or for personal practice. Highly recommend it.
I've recently fallen in love with yoga and go to a studio 2-3 times weekly. This book is PERFECT for helping start my home practice and supporting my goals related to energy healing of the chakras. I love, love, love the poses and sequences listed, and they're great to do exactly as-is or to mix and match a few poses from each chakra! There is a beautiful flow to these sequences, and they're challenging too. I will be using this wonderful book for years to come!! Highly highly recommend.
Psychologist and yogin Anodea Judith is an amazing resource when it comes to the chakra system. Her first book, Wheels of Life: A User’s Guide to the Chakra System, has become a yoga classic. Now she has released a book specific to hatha yoga practice using the chakras. This is a great resource for individuals who may wish to focus their practice on a specific chakra, as well as a manual for teachers who wish to lead a chakra yoga practice. Chakra Yoga can be used by novices who would like to learn about the chakras, experienced practitioners looking for ideas or perspective, and everyone in between. To put everyone on the same page, Judith gives a concise and thorough explanation of the chakras.Judith gives a short introduction, where she introduces the reader to her personal and professional experience with chakras. She then places the chakras into the context of yoga (some may have encountered chakras at the new age store and not know their yogic origins). Yoga means “to yoke,†or hitch two things together and Judith says, “the chakra system is the architecture of that yoke, providing a comprehensive map to the way the mortal and the Divine yoke together.†The goal of the chakra, yoga, and LifeForce Yoga is wholeness and integration. The chakra system “provides both a ladder for liberation and a map for manifestation.†Understanding our chakras and integrating this knowledge into our practices, allows us to have a deeper experience of focus and unfolding. Each chapter is devoted to a specific chakra and begins with a chart of the basic principles of that chakra. These principles include things like associated element, body parts, practices, actions, deficiencies, balances, etc. Judith identifies a keyword for each chakra, which is elaborated upon in the discussion of basic concepts that follows. As an example, the keyword for Manipura, third chakra, is activate, through the cultivation of fire (agni) in the body. This concept of activation through fire is put into context with a discussion of the underlying yogic philosophy with sources from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita. The author then grounds this discussion into an experience, pelvic pulsing for the second chakra, uddiyana bandha (energy lock) for the third chakra, etc. The energy practice is followed by a meditative experience, a subtle energy exploration of the chakra. The chapter continues with a yoga posture flow. Judith states in the introduction that there is no substitute for a skilled teacher and since this is not a comprehensive yoga pose manual, she has made some wonderful adjustments. Postures have a basic set of step by step instructions and readers are asked to follow them in order without omission. Guidelines are given for further instruction, as well as benefits and cautions. At the end of the chapter, a posture flow is given with the names of the poses and a small photograph. The selection of which postures to include is not easy as postures influence more than one chakra at a time, or variations of the same pose, or a shift in focus, may impact a different chakra. For this reason, Judith states, “some of the basic poses will appear in more than one chakra.†Of special note: the author provides a four pose partner yoga sequence in the heart chakra chapter.Judith provides a specific relaxation and focus for each chakra. For example, the focus of relaxation for the fifth chakra (visshudha at the throat) is on “listening to the subtle variations coursing throughout the whole body.†The relaxation focus for the first chakra (muladhara at the base of the spine) is on feeling the solidity of the body and receiving nourishment from the earth.Judith is adept at writing about complex concepts from yoga philosophy so that they are easy to understand and yet lose none of their richness. Chakra Yoga contains ample opportunities to experience energy, movement, and stillness. It belongs on the shelf of every yoga/chakra enthusiast.
What a wonderful book. Anodea does a wonderful job describing each pose and different things you can focus on in each asana that allows you to dig deeper and experience each pose more fully. The sequences she has put together for each chakra are powerful. The photography is fantastic. I appreciate that she has a section in which she fully describes each asana but then also has a section where she just has the photos of the poses for when you've gained familiarity with the sequence. I am happy breathing exercises are covered, too, and not just the physical poses. It's been my go to book for my home practice ever since I ordered it months ago.
As the book suggests, this book covers the various yoga poses affiliated with each of the chakras. I highly recommend this book. The author knows yoga as well as the chakras very well and ties them together in an easy to follow book. Its divided by chakra and is color coded by chakra so you can find what you're looking for quickly and easily. Great read.
