Review
"Tinsey Clover is a fantastical children's story written by Chelsea Flagg. Tinsey Clover is a young elf who dreamed of leaving her chaotic home and exploring the world, while still trying to bring the nearby communities together in a peaceful reunion. On one glorious day, she finally got her wish and was able to go out on an adventure of a lifetime that was well beyond her expectations. Overcoming the restrictions that held her back, Tinsey left behind the comfort and safety of her family and old friends, and met new types of people that normally would be the least likely of friends. But are they truly friends or will they betray her? Will she bring about a peaceful solution and make it back alive, or will she become some scary monster's next meal? One of the greatest aspects of Tinsey Clover is the way the author used the unique situations as an educational tool to teach young readers valuable lessons; to help them make better choices in their future. I was very surprised by each of the twists and turns that led to the final plot. I was impressed with the way the characters matured in the story, making it mesh very smoothly with the action. This book was awe inspiring, easy to follow, and hard to put down, making it one of the best children's stories on the market for youngsters to read. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Tinsey Clover; it was adorable!"- Anthony Elmore for Readers' Favorite"This self-published children's book is charming and has a good message... I enjoyed both the characters and the story. If we were all kind to each other and gave ourselves a chance to know the others, the world would be a better place." - JoAnne Hakola, IndieReader"At its core, TINSEY CLOVER is a story about the power of forming second impressions. By showing the different approaches Tinsey, Judder, and their families take when meeting someone they've been taught to fear or dislike, Flagg frames the process of unlearning prejudices in a way that will resonate with both young readers and their parents. Although the dialogue includes some awkward phrasing and over-explanation, Tinsey's spunky and inquisitive narrative voice keeps the story moving. Kids are sure to giggle out loud at the creative ways Tinsey uses her bizarre power throughout her journey.Magical creatures, dynamic writing, and silly humor combine to create a heartwarming story about acceptance and teamwork in TINSEY CLOVER."~Cameron Gillespie for IndieReader

First if the main character Tinsey was real or if I lived in her magical world, I'm certain we would be friends. In Tinsey's world, her people just don't interact with anyone outside their community. Well, she sees differently and is so eager to explore her world. When she finally does, adventure ensues. I loved the message behind this book. To be willing to meet and get to know others outside of our familiar kind. That is such an important lesson because we can often unintentionally or intentionally teach prejudice to children. How often do we teach openness and talking with someone who lives different, talks different and looks different? Well this book speaks directly to that and I loved it. It's an adorable world with fun language and imagery. A great read!
This middle grade book is an adorable tale featuring a kind and plucky lead named Tinsey Clover. An elf the size of a chipmunk, Tinsey feels isolated in her community, keenly aware of not fitting in with the other elves. After developing an unusual (and funny) magical power, Tinsey decides to set off on an adventure, hoping to find a community that really feels like home. Her adventure leads her to meet many interesting and sweet magical folks, including the charming troll Judder (one of my favourite characters). Her travels cause her to realise that the world is a very different place than she once thought it to be. While this novel is a breeze to read, it’s also clearly thoughtfully constructed as the author has threaded surprising reveals throughout the plot to keep readers consistently engaged. Flagg writes in a fun, easy to read style and this story would be particularly well-suited for reading aloud to young readers. Such readers are sure to enjoy the many enchantingly cute creatures featured in Tinsey Clover.
Tinsey Clover turns out to be more than just an elf the size of a chipmunk. She’s spunky, brave, loyal and very wise for her age. There are so many important lessons in this book and not just for children. Chelsea Flagg’s characters are believable, kind, cooperative and willing to see the big picture. This book goes beyond teaching inclusivity, courageousness, and what it means to be willing to go beyond one’s limits. It’s a great lesson in forgiveness; that just because you don’t agree with someone or approve of their actions, family is still family (singular or tribal) and deserving of help. For Flagg’s debut children’s novel, I give her an A+ for story line, charming and well-developed characters, snappy dialogue, and scenes that pull the reader right into the story. I bought this book for my granddaughters, 5 and 9, but I’ve decided to keep this for myself and get them another! Looking forward to the next Tinsey Clover adventure!
Tinsey Clover is a little treaflur who doesn't quite fit in, desperately searching for purpose and meaning in a sheltered world that doesn't encourage individuality, and who through her own unique gifts and perseverance sets the stage for incredible growth and discovery for many. While this coming of age story is undoubtedly uplifting and inspiring, the writing style and dialogue of the story need some improvement, which with time I'm sure Flagg will continue to develop. Certainly just the start of Tinsey's story, young readers will surely have much to look forward to as she and Flagg grow and mature.
I get to do the review because I read this to my 5 year old :) The themes and messages about family, friendships, bravery, vulnerability were all a pleasure to share and completely approachable and connectable for my 5 yr old. We had some good conversations in the middle of reading. The characters were fun and real and vulnerable and brave and so creative and appealing to envision in our minds. Cliffhanger chapter endings kept my daughter super engaged. Dialogue was realistic and made us both giggle often.
This book book made me giggle, tear up and reflect on the many gems of life and being different. I loved it as much as my 8 year old daughter loved it. It is smart, thoughtful and whimsical in all the best ways. I deeply appreciate the focus on tolerance for others and owning your power. The writer has a strong yet gentle voice. I want more!
My 8 year old son loved that book, and wanted to write his own review :)"I thought that Tinsey Clover was a wonderful and charming story about a little elf no bigger than a chipmunk.I never thought that any little forest elf would have so much imagination and courage! It is far more than a cunning story, it is a magical story. You can tell the author has lots of imagination! In other words, it is a wonderful story. With many, many compliments" -Sky (8 years old)
Tinsey is a relatable hero who finds that what she thought were weaknesses are her greatest strengths. That is a powerful message for anyone who is trying to figure out how to fit in. I can't wait for her next adventure.
