I’ve read all of the books in this series. The eight does not disappoint. What makes this series so compelling is the development of the main character, Gaius Valerius Verrens. A deep and complex hero, Valerius has finally obtained a measurable degree of stability, prosperity and intimacy -- something that was sorely lacking in prior novels.Glory of Rome seems to represent a turning point for Valerius. Now in his fortieth year, he is older and wiser. His unquestioning notion of duty to Rome – or the ideal of Rome-- has been replaced by a deeper notion of duty and responsibility to his family and those under his command. He is prepared to die protecting them.Mr. Jackson is a fantastic writer. In addition to telling a great story, his writing is backed up with meticulous and thorough research. While this book can stand alone, I recommend that you read the first seven books in the series because of the many back stories. I am looking forward to book nine.

Very Good read. Varrens character is still going strong but showing signs of age and responsiblility.

Another great entry in the lineup!

Jackson does not disappoint in this action filled, twist and turns addition to the Valerius Verrens series. While a bit over the top in some of the gore descriptions, the story is fast paced, richly authentic and builds well on the characters (the ones that are still alive anyway). By migrating the protagonist to Britain during the time of Agricola Jackson is obviously setting up 'yet to be released' books in the series. This long time fan will look forward to the further adventures of our aging hero.

This book is a memoir of the travels and immigration of Pascal D'Angelo, a poor illiterate young man from Introdaqua in Italy in the late nineteenth century to New York City. It is especially and personally important to me as an Italian American because it reflects very positively and poignantly on the personal experiences of all my grandparents who came to the United States around the same time as the author.The reader should not be surprised that the author composed such a great memoir despite being an illiterate ditch digger, a manual laborer. Ben Johnston, one of the greatest poets and dramatists of English literature (1572-1637) was a brick layer.However, the reader should be surprised about D'Angelo's great facility in the English language despite his illiteracy and lack of formal education. Such circumstances do not happen often in literature, the other notable exception being Joseph Conrad, an expatriate of Poland who wrote an exceptional novel, Heart of Darkness. Like D'Angelo, Conrad also had to learn English from scratch.I would classify this memoir as required reading for any American of Italian descent.Son of Italy (Picas Series 36)

Son of Italy is near the top of my all time favorite books. D'Angelo tells us of his experiences following immigration to USA. He had a tough time, to say the least, but he pursued his dream when another man might have thrown up his hands and gone home (which is what his father did). D'Angelo's vivid descriptions of the poverty he lived in made my hair stand up. His work life and living conditions were truly horrifying. He describes the worst of a turn of the century immigrant lifestyle.I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The ending is tremendous. D'Angelo reaches his goals and we all benefit from that because he left the legacy of this book.

This guide is the most complete and clearly communicated sanskrit reference for yoga that I have ever seen. I am a yoga teacher trainer and this will become my constant companion for both myself and to use in our trainings. It includes a comprehensive list of asana names and translations presented in alphabetical order with very, precise linear illustrations. This section alone is invaluable. The accompanying CD states the sanskrit term twice so that you may repeat it back and follows with the English translation (so you know the meaning of what you just said!). In addition to asana, the guide includes the sun salutation sequences, the first 3 astanga sequences, seven common mudras or hand gestures, common chants for your practice, several of the key sutras and a vast collection of yoga terms- numbers, yamas, niyamas, animals, bandhas, cakras, body parts and more.The book is very organized and easy to use. The accompanying CD is tracked allowing you to quickly go to the section you are looking for. The best part of the CD is that you can clearly hear and understand Nicolai's rhythmic voice as well as, the female vocal accompaniment in the chants. (Many of my previous attempts at learning sanskrit were hampered by the thick accent of the translator). You can also use the book by itself or the CDs by themselves. No need to cross reference so you can play the CD anywhere and learn the language of yoga in your car or while working around the house.This book is a must for any serious yoga student or yoga teacher. It will help you quickly learn and understand the sanskrit terms used in yoga. It will also help you to pronounce sanskrit with the beauty of this most sacred and spiritual language.

I bought this book/CD combination in order to get a better idea of how Sanskrit is pronounced. The author has a wonderful speaking voice and clearly articulates the words and chants in the text. I am also happy that the chants are sung without the accompaniment of distracting musical instruments.

This book and 2 CD combination is a thorough, well-organized and illustrated guide to the language of yoga. It includes such categories as body parts, asana names, important sanskrit terms and some chants.The voice on the CD is easily understandable and you can either use the CDs with or without the guide. This reference also includes the alphabet and sanskrit terms in both original script and transliterated forms.The material in this set is easily digestible and it is spirally bound for ease of reference. In addition, it is printed on high quality paper and for the cost it is an incredible bargain.If you want to refine your pronunciation even more, then I would also pick up Sanskrit Pronunciation. This gives you even more practice and fuller explanations of tranliterationed Sanskrit. There is also more focus on commonly occurring philosophical terms.You can view more of my recommendations for yoga resources on my profile under my listmania lists. However, if pronunciation of Sanskrit is what you are after most likely this resource alone will give you what you need.

I loved this book. It comes form the heart. She has written a great memoir. I was also very fortunate to meet the author, Mariam Kabeer Faye. I recommend it highly for anyone who is searching for a path that is right and very meaningful. Following intensive research, the purchase of this book has been a part of the process of building a library of Islamic literature, that relates particularly to seeking the path of excellence in spirituality, purification of the heart, ascetism, and an appreciation and understanding of the experiences of those who have followed this very path previously. The goal, God willing, in turn is to be inspired and motivated to seek success in a journey of personal development. Hence, this book is a piece of the puzzle of the big picture. I have been very pleased with this book.

After reading the opening poem that sets the backdrop for this incredible story, I closed my book and let the scene come to life. Then I turned to the first chapter and was taken on a very long journey, step by step, on the author's path to spiritual enlightenment. When one becomes a seeker of Truth, there is no road map to follow. There is no planning ahead for such a journey; but the trip is anything but random. At each place experienced by Maryam Kabeer Faye and retold in Journey Through Ten Thousand Veils, we hear how her Truth grows; and, for me, each stop reminded me of a stop on my own very different journey along the same sort of path. In times where the bridges that joined us at Creation to all other inhabitants of our world have been burned by hatred, anger, and fear, it is encouraging to hear the story of someone whose life has been all about building the bridges that connect us -- man to man and woman to woman. Her conclusion that, "The way of Muhammad is Mercy for All the Worlds," speaks to the heart of Islam that has been forgotten, accused, and misrepresented in a time when our fear sees only the terroristic acts of a few as defining many. Our world desperately needs the sort of Love, Truth, Compassion and Healing that are the heart of this woman's journey to the Light. May Sheika Maryam be blessed for sharing the search of one woman toward the removal of the "veils" that separated her from the clarity of the Light that is her birthright. May many who read her story be similarly blessed and encouraged to "love all lives as your own," to "repel evil with what is better," to see and hear with our hearts all the Light that shines in our world -- even when the night seems the darkest.

The spiritual journey of Maryam is unique in some ways.It resembles the truth finding journey of one of Arabian prophet's companion,Salman Farsi.He was born a Zoroasteran but later embraced other religions,one after the other.Frustrated he asked one of his dying masters to reveal him the Truth.The master pointed him to Arabia..where the final messenger was shortly to appear,giving him the signs to recognise the prophet.Circumstances led tim to the place as a slave of some Jews where the prophet migrated.After testing the prophet he embraced Islam with full heart.Maryam also was led in phases on a similar journey,where, atlast she found her truth.

Very nice pic's it's detailed on the Alps free flying scene, very detailed. Maybe for the future a bivouac section could be included, it would be fun to be able to fly from one takeoff to the next one.

Really well put together. Aesthetically pleasing and very informative. A great resource for flying the Alps.

An outstanding reference for flying in the Alps. If you are a visiting pilot this book is essential..!Great pictures, maps, site details including accommodation options, local clubs or schools, non flying activities etc.I even bought copies for my friends living in Europe which encouraged them to get out and visit new sites.

The book is very complete, the lay-out is beautiful and the information about the flying conditions and safety are a must read. If you plan to travel to the alps to fly, you should definitely buy it.
