She recounts her encounters with the deep peace and beauty of Islam and her meetings with illuminated souls, leading to her eventual embrace of Islam.One of the most moving moments is when she begins doing salat (ritual prayer) in the assembly around Sheikh Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, oblivious of the assembly, mindful only of her commitment to prayer, and finds over time a congregation building up around her exemplary prayer, and then Bawa begins teaching the group Islam before his departure from the world.Toward the end of the book the clear and inspiring Sufi teachings flow through Sheikha Maryam, representing the deep peace, love, and unity in the One that is the true Islam, as contrasted with the murderous fanatical propaganda distorting and degrading the image of Islam in the world today. I loved this book. It comes form the heart. She has written a great memoir. I was also very fortunate to meet the author, Mariam Kabeer Faye. I recommend it highly for anyone who is searching for a path that is right and very meaningful. Following intensive research, the purchase of this book has been a part of the process of building a library of Islamic literature, that relates particularly to seeking the path of excellence in spirituality, purification of the heart, ascetism, and an appreciation and understanding of the experiences of those who have followed this very path previously. The goal, God willing, in turn is to be inspired and motivated to seek success in a journey of personal development. Hence, this book is a piece of the puzzle of the big picture. I have been very pleased with this book.

After reading the opening poem that sets the backdrop for this incredible story, I closed my book and let the scene come to life. Then I turned to the first chapter and was taken on a very long journey, step by step, on the author's path to spiritual enlightenment. When one becomes a seeker of Truth, there is no road map to follow. There is no planning ahead for such a journey; but the trip is anything but random. At each place experienced by Maryam Kabeer Faye and retold in Journey Through Ten Thousand Veils, we hear how her Truth grows; and, for me, each stop reminded me of a stop on my own very different journey along the same sort of path. In times where the bridges that joined us at Creation to all other inhabitants of our world have been burned by hatred, anger, and fear, it is encouraging to hear the story of someone whose life has been all about building the bridges that connect us -- man to man and woman to woman. Her conclusion that, "The way of Muhammad is Mercy for All the Worlds," speaks to the heart of Islam that has been forgotten, accused, and misrepresented in a time when our fear sees only the terroristic acts of a few as defining many. Our world desperately needs the sort of Love, Truth, Compassion and Healing that are the heart of this woman's journey to the Light. May Sheika Maryam be blessed for sharing the search of one woman toward the removal of the "veils" that separated her from the clarity of the Light that is her birthright. May many who read her story be similarly blessed and encouraged to "love all lives as your own," to "repel evil with what is better," to see and hear with our hearts all the Light that shines in our world -- even when the night seems the darkest.

I met Maryam Kabeer Faye last year in Pittsburgh. It was a life changing experience. This book is her story.....a life adventure....an adventure in spirituality. The spiritual journey of Maryam is unique in some ways.It resembles the truth finding journey of one of Arabian prophet's companion,Salman Farsi.He was born a Zoroasteran but later embraced other religions,one after the other.Frustrated he asked one of his dying masters to reveal him the Truth.The master pointed him to Arabia..where the final messenger was shortly to appear,giving him the signs to recognise the prophet.Circumstances led tim to the place as a slave of some Jews where the prophet migrated.After testing the prophet he embraced Islam with full heart.Maryam also was led in phases on a similar journey,where, atlast she found her truth.

I was in search for a teacher and a guide who could help me reach and connect to Allah in the rightful manner, and after reading this book, i feel like my search has finally ended, insh'Allah. I watched the interview of Sheikha Maryam Kabeer faye on tv and not only i was connected, right after the show i went online and bought this book. As i was reading through the chapters, i felt very blessed and satisfied that i bought it. Its very spritual! Loving my Creator everyday more and more has brought peace in my life, and this book is a sign for me that has inspired me to be close to my Lord even more.

Like drinking a tall glass of water after walking mile upon mile in the blazing heat, was what it felt like when I finished reading Sheikha Maryam's book, The Journey Through Ten Thousand Veils. It was refreshing and rejuvenating to my soul to be able to journey with the Sheikha on her quest through all the veils of illusion back to the "ONE". Her story shows what marvelous experiences can happen when one surrenders totally to God. Very nice pic's it's detailed on the Alps free flying scene, very detailed. Maybe for the future a bivouac section could be included, it would be fun to be able to fly from one takeoff to the next one.

If you are a visiting pilot this book is essential..!Great pictures, maps, site details including accommodation options, local clubs or schools, non flying activities etc.I even bought copies for my friends living in Europe which encouraged them to get out and visit new sites.

The book is very complete, the lay-out is beautiful and the information about the flying conditions and safety are a must read. If you plan to travel to the alps to fly, you should definitely buy it.

I confess I purchased this book by accident, intending to download the sample but ended up clicking the wrong button by mistake. Oh well ...The book is a very long collection of papers and essays that are somewhat disjointed. The underlying theme, of course, is consciousness, which nobody is able to define. That isn't surprising since the only things that can defined are those that can be objectified, observed and described in terms of other things. Consciousness can only be experienced -- not observed -- thereby making it impossible to define.The arguments presented were all over the map. Some of the papers were thought provoking, such as those discussing out-of-body experiences and reincarnation. There were numerous papers that tried to connect consciousness with quantum mechanics, but they amounted to a lot of hand waving and weren't very convincing in my opinion. [Here's my own rather simplistic explanation of this connection in a nutshell: Quantum mechanics is all about uncertainty. Furthermore, according to Shannon's definition, the term "information" itself is meaningless without assigning a probability to each possible outcome or state, and probability requires uncertainty. Uncertainty is a mental state, which only exists within the context of a mind. Therefore, Mind (consciousness) must be present at the fundamental, quantum mechanical, sub-basement level of reality.]The first paper presented the Penrose-Hameroff model of consciousness based on microtubules in great detail. It was fairly rigorous and well-grounded, but I believe the details would be way over the head of the casual reader.I'm not sure who the intended audience of this book is supposed to be. Probably not science experts, who are already familiar with the theories and research presented in these papers, but certainly not the lay persons who aren't very well-versed in quantum mechanics. I would have given this book a pass had I sampled it beforehand.

A collection of 49 papers on the topic of human consciousness and its relationship to the quantum world. The lead paper is by Penrose who has long argued (and in my mind, very persuasively) for the connection between consciousness and the quantum world. Penrose describes why some of the electro-chemical reactions involved in consciousness are so small in size that they appear to be at the quantum world level. Most, if not all, of the other papers accept Penrose's position. Some of the discussions are a bit difficult to follow, and I certainly did not agree with all of them (e.g., relating to out-of-body or near death experiences and reincarnation), but most will reward the reader with a fuller understanding of space, time, the quantum world, the notorious "measurement problem" and the "hard problem" of human consciousness (how a collection of non-living physical particles swimming in an electro-magnetic field generate the illusion that we are conscious). There is no theory (or at least not in the secular world) that helps explain why we experience certain electro-magnetic waves as "blue" and others as "red" or why we even think we are conscious. Nor is it clear that consciousness has developed to the degree it has in humans because it contributes to survival of the species. Some papers attempt to describe difficulties inherent in the self-referential nature of using our own consciousness to analyze our own consciousness and how the observation of quantum phenomena (such as the collapse of the Shroedinger wave or the two slit experiment) affects not only the phenomenon being observed but also the observer making the observation, making any observation full of uncertainties.. The implications of Goodel's incompleteness theorem is discussed in connection with considering whether the mind computes reality using noncomputable truths, making it impossible for a man-made computer to attain consciousness (unless it is a quantum computer??) Is there an innate field in the universe arising with the original Big Bang that provides consciousness to biological life forms, like the gravity,r electromagnetic or Higgs fields (which supply electro-magnetic forces, gravitation and mass)? Do all particles exhibit elements of consciousness ("panpsychism")? Not all of the articles are easy to read, but for the reader searching for answers, it will be time well spent.

This is not easy reading, especially because of frequent typos and the tiny graphics becoming blurred beyond recognition when enlarged.Besides that, there is a wealth of information!
